Privacy Policy for Shiny
Lumera Labs ("we," "us," or "our") operates Shiny, a daily companion for iPhone built for people who are idea-rich but execution-poor (the "App"). This Privacy Policy describes how information is handled when you use the App.
Summary: Shiny keeps your data on your device and in your iCloud account. We do not sell your information, run third-party analytics, or show ads. Voice and Apple Intelligence features run on your iPhone—not on our servers.
Information you provide
When you use Shiny, you may enter information that is stored locally on your device (and in iCloud if sync is enabled):
- Tasks — titles, steps, status, and time estimates
- Mood check-ins — valence, energy, tags, optional notes
- Journal entries — free-form text
- Daily plans — must-wins, notes, and wrap-up data
- Focus sessions — duration and linked task title
- Settings — preferences such as active hours and quiet mode
- Shared content — text or links you share into Shiny from other apps
Shiny does not require your name, email, or phone number to use the app.
Information from your device (with permission)
Calendar & Reminders (read-only). If enabled, Shiny reads event and reminder titles and dates to suggest must-wins. Shiny never changes your calendar or reminders.
Microphone & speech. Voice capture uses on-device speech recognition to transcribe audio into text.
Notifications. Local reminders only—for mood check-ins, re-entry prompts, and focus follow-ups. No marketing.
Siri & Shortcuts. Governed by Apple's policies when you invoke Shiny intents.
On-device intelligence
On supported devices, Shiny may use Apple's on-device Foundation Models to structure captures, suggest tasks, and generate supportive copy. Processing happens on your iPhone, not on Lumera Labs servers. If unavailable, Shiny uses on-device heuristics instead.
iCloud sync
When signed into iCloud, Shiny syncs your data through Apple CloudKit to your private container (iCloud.lumera.shiny). We do not operate a separate cloud database. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

This data stays in an on-device App Group and is not sent to Lumera Labs.
How we use your information
We use your information only to provide Shiny's features, personalize suggestions, sync via iCloud, and deliver notifications you opt into. We do not use it for advertising or sell it to third parties.
What we do not do
- Sell or rent your personal information
- Use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs
- Upload your content to Lumera Labs servers
- Require a Lumera Labs account
Data retention and deletion
Delete local data anytime via Settings → Reset local data in the app. To remove iCloud data, delete the app from your devices or manage iCloud storage in iOS Settings.
Children's privacy
Shiny is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact Lumera Labs at hello@lumeralabs.com.
International users
Data is processed on your device and in Apple's iCloud infrastructure. Contact us to exercise applicable privacy rights.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above.
